The Once Proud Boer City Nicknamed Rosestad Is No More. Tuesday was the 12th day in which garbage was not collected by the municipality of Bloemfontein, causing mountains of black refuse bags to lie uncollected in the streets in neighborhoods like Pelissier and Lourierpark. Small-scale black farmers close by have been letting their pigs invade the neighbourhoods, ripping open the refuse bags looking for food, leaving a big mess.

Only the ruins of a once proud Bloemfontein, once called Die Rosestad, have remained, and the metro administration is now in a position where it simply can’t manage itself anymore. It is the first metro in the country that has totally collapsed. So says Professor Andre Duvenhage, currently a political analyst at the North West University, who stayed 17 years in Bloemfontein.
Duvenhage says he is shocked over the decay of the once proud institution, once reckoned among the best in the country. Duvenhage says the whole local government system in the Free State has collapsed and what can be seen in Bloemfontein, can be seen anywhere in the Free State. He says Bloemfontein is hopelessly bankrupt and the lawyers of debt collectors regularly close Bloemfontein’s Nedbank account to lay its hands on some money as soon as a little comes in.

Seven babies died in the neonatal unit of Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein within eight days.
Mondli Mvambi, the spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health, confirmed the death of these newborn babies between December 2 and 10.
Mvambi says the sudden rise in mortality in the neonatal unit is been investigated.
“We found the department had taken neonatal babies with an average weight of 600 g on average last month.”
The lower the weight at birth, the higher the risk of illness and death, he says.
“We find that our community is less and less concerned about the rules and procedures regarding antenatal care.”
He says generalization is dangerous.
“However, there is an increasing number of young mothers in the province giving birth to stillborn babies and most of these cases come to Pelonomi.”

The Park Road police station located in the Free State, Bloemfontein is by far the busiest and largest police station in the province. Unfortunately, the ANC regime allowed this building to operate without the necessary amenities, it was demolished halfway and had to operate without holding cells for more than a year.
Since the building is inoperative, approximately 50 detainees who have to appear in courts must be transported daily under police supervision to and from neighbouring detention cells situated in Bainsvlei, Bot-shabelo and Petrusburg.
Renovation work at the Park Road police station began in November 2017 after a R73 million contract was awarded to Soaring Summit Development, but according to Public Works Minister Patricia de Lille, the company failed to meet the timeframes and expectations. A 34-year-old female constable from Bloemfontein was arrested on Tuesday night after renting out her service pistol to criminals to rob her unit’s office in for alleged firearms, including assault rifles to be used in other crimes.
According to the Hawks national spokesman, Brig. Hangwani Mulaudzi the police’s intelligence unit in Bloemfontein and officers from the Hawks’ serious crime investigation unit have set a trap for the officer. Police used undercover cops that they posed as criminals. The constable was captured after allegedly “borrowing her weapon for the criminals” to carry out the robbery. Mulaudzi says she apparently told the the undercover cops which firearms are in the safe at her office. They met the officer at about 22:00 at a gas station in King Edward Road in Willows, Bloemfontein, showed her the “stolen firearms” and paid her R30 000 for the use of her service pistol.

The FF Plus demands that the Free State Department of Health urgently intervene and ensure that all high-care units in the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein are restored to an operational condition.
Currently, there is not one operating high-care unit in this hospital.
At a recent Health Portfolio Committee meeting in the Free State Legislature, the head of the Free State Department of Health, Dr. David Motau, reveals that only the high-care unit on the third floor of Pelonomi Hospital is operational.
However, the FF Plus has determined that this unit is used as an ordinary hospital ward.
The FF Plus has addressed a written question to the Free State MEC of Health, Montseng Tsiu.
The party condemns the poor quality of healthcare to patients who cannot afford private healthcare.

An elderly woman underwent emergency surgery and is temporarily in a wheelchair after a kitchen worker at a care home has knocked her down, she was left helpless with a broken hand on the floor.
Elize Devenish’s (79) family filed a charge of assault with police after a kitchen worker at Ons Tuiste in Engo’s center for the elderly in Bloemfontein knocked her down when she took a cup of yoghurt after breakfast.
Images of the incident shows how Devenish was left on the floor for about five minutes while in pain.
There is an argument between the worker and Devenish first. Then she got up and walked to a table to take the yogurt, after which the worker shoved her. Devenish staggered and fell on the floor, where she was left helplessly.
