Femicide, rape, murder, a tanking economy – everything’s getting worse, and action from the top is our only hope

SA is in a terrible spiral of negativity. The past two weeks have been horrendous: men killing women, men raping children, supposedly “pro-poor” politicians like Julius Malema allegedly feeding himself from monies stolen from grandmothers’ pensions at VBS Bank, the country’s finances in a terrible state and about to be tipped into junk status, the crime statistics worse than they have ever been – and the economy continuing in the downward spiral it’s been on for ages.

Lest we forget, Hlaudi Motsoeneng appeared at the Zondo commission into state capture and reminded all of us just how absolutely horrific, low-grade and corrupt the past 10 years of our lives were. Hawks are investigating fraud of more than R150 million at Sedibeng Municipality

A senior investigation team is investigating fraud, corruption and maladministration where there are alleged contracts involved in the Sedibeng municipality.

Sedibeng is in Vereeniging and the municipality’s operations are now being investigated for alleged fraud of more than R150 million.

Godfrey Lebeya from the Hawks unit has appointed senior investigators to investigate the alleged fraud brought to the attention of a Falcon by a group of more than 600 people.

The march in Pretoria appears to have served as a trigger for the Hawks to take action, but experts believe the investigation could take months and concerns about the possibility of prosecution.

South-Africa: Since apartheid was abolished, 1,000,000 people have been raped, 500,000 killed

According to the Institute of Racial Relations (IRV), crime statistics look like a low-intensity civil war and SA is still losing the fight against crime.

The people of the country are living under an impending cloud of anarchy every day. The Institute shows that murders have risen to 21,000 over the past year and SA is being compared to a country like Syria. The rape figure looks even worse with two rapes for each murder committed. Since apartheid was abolished, 1,000,000 people have been raped and 500,000 killed.

Commercial crime increased by 14%. More than 83,000 cases have been reported to the police. The offenses include fraud, corruption, money laundering, forgery and cyber crimes. Robberies have exceeded the 140,000 notch while truck hijackings show more than 1,180 reported cases.

South Africa’s murder rate has increased by 5,8 percent compared with the previous year.

Regiments Capital used to plunder the Transnet pension fund – R349m ‘stolen’ from pensioners in four days

After allegations emerged in court of yet another scam that Regiments Capital used to plunder a Transnet pension fund, Regiments directors quickly agreed to pay half a billion rand to settle all the fund’s claims against it. But Eric Wood, a former director, has gone to court to quash the deal, claiming his former colleagues are using the company’s money to save themselves, leaving him to face the music.

Regiments Capital has agreed to an astounding R500 million settlement with the Transnet Second Defined Benefit Fund (TSDBF).

Regiments is a financial services company that scored hundreds of millions of rands in business from Transnet with a leg-up from the Guptas and their associates.

The settlement follows the revelation of a previously unknown stratagem Regiments allegedly used to suck R349 million from the pension fund in a mere four days during late 2015 and early 2016.

Many secrets now buried with Watson’s death – Several corrupt people’s crimes are now going to the grave with him

Many secrets surrounding the corruption and state capture in South Africa were buried for good after the communist-minded Gavin Watson died when he crashed into a concrete pillar with a Toyota car on Monday morning.

There are suspicions that Watson wanted to evade Tuesday’s testimony before the Zondo commission and flee the country, especially considering the numerous bribes he was dealing with.

Observers later said Watson’s death would suit a lot of corrupt people like a glove, and their scandalous actions can now be easily refuted.

The possibility that Watson committed suicide is considered the sole cause of the accident in some circles, and the allegation that he did not have the expertise to drive a gearshift car because he was only driving cars with automatic gears, is rejected.

Arms scandal again under spot light – Submarine purchase from Germany could not be used effectively because SA does not have trained personnel

During the first half of 2008, the SA Queen Modjadji was received from Germany at the port at Simon’s Town.

It is the latest delivery of submarines from Germany purchased by South Africa while the country does not have sufficiently trained personnel to use the boat effectively.

The Crawford-Browne activist says there is only one solution to rectify the matter, and that is to cancel the contract, return the goods, and recover the huge sums.

He says South Africa must immediately cancel all outstanding orders from weapons ordered under contracts and claim back any payments thereon.

This is Crawford-Browne’s response in the Pretoria High Court and probably contributed to the court’s finding that the arms scandal report was unbelievable and rejected.

With the finding in court, the door is wide open to start again with the prosecution of Jacob Zuma.

4 Police officers charged with kidnapping, assault and extortion but SAPS has not suspended them and they still serving the public

Durban – The four Inanda police officers arrested for kidnapping, assault and extortion at a truck yard in Springfield Park recently have not been suspended from the force, the Durban Magistrate’s Court heard on Friday.

One will report weekly to the station where he works as part of his bail conditions while the others will have to sign the bail register at stations closer to their homes.

At their bail application on Friday, investigating officer Detective Captain Paulos Sithembiso Vezi’s affidavit described how they were arrested.

One of the accused placed a call to arrange a meeting to receive clandestine money, but the cellphone receiving his call was at the wrong place – it was answered by the victim who was at Greenwood Park police station reporting the crime. His phone was placed on loudspeaker mode while the arrangements were being made.

The government’s plan to steamroller the National Health Insurance (NHI) through Parliament and to have it promulgated as legislation will cost South Africa dearly.

Last month, the FF Plus warned in Parliament that adopting the NHI as legislation and enforcing it will cause experienced medical professionals to leave the country.

The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, is being obstinate in his attempts to get this law on paper so that it can be implemented, however, he is still unable to provide clarity regarding how the NHI will be financed and what the role of medical aid funds will be under the NHI.

Everything seems to indicate that the government is aiming to get rid of medical aid funds with the NHI and that will surely deliver another significant blow to South Africa’s already struggling economy.

Seven police officers arrested for allegedly attempting to resell confiscated goods

Gauteng police have arrested seven of their own for corruption and defeating the ends of justice for allegedly attempting to resell confiscated goods to illegal traders.

Police spokeswoman Brig Mathapelo Peters said a Warrant Officer and four Constables were arrested at the Johannesburg Central police station after trying to resell goods confiscated from the Okae Molao operation that took place in the CBD on Wednesday.

“In the second incident, two members from the Tactical Response Team were arrested after police investigated a possible leak of information about the planned operation in the Johannesburg CBD. The two were linked through investigation and on an eye witness account,” Peters said.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of police, Lt-Gen Elias Mawela said he hoped the arrest of their own members will inspire hope in Gauteng residents.
