DStv customers, check your bills: “Thousands” have been overcharged for September

A number of DStv subscribers reported being overcharged on their monthly bills by up to R1 000 in September. And the reason why has infuriated customers.

If it’s not Steve Hofmeyr and his mates smashing up decoders, then DStv are pretty good at doing damage to themselves. The television network is facing an almighty backlash, and a number of subscribers reported being overcharged for their service in the month of September: Some users have claimed they were hit by a R1 000 surcharge.

DStv bills – are you being overcharged?

Other reported amounts are as little as R20, with many complaints raised about bills that were R150 – R250 over the odds. It’s caused something of a stir online, with a handful of South African threatening to boycott the organisation over their controversial billing procedure.

DStv cuts affordable package with KykNET – Pensioners must now subscribe to premium package if they want to watch their favourite Afrikaans soaps

MultiChoice has informed its DStv Select subscribers that it will discontinue this service on 29 October 2019 and move them to DStv Family.

“DStv is continuously reviewing its content line-up, packaging structure and pricing to ensure that customers have access to the best fresh content at great value,” MultiChoice said.

“As a result, we will be discontinuing some packages and re-directing customers to the main packages where the same programmes and channels can be found.”

The company stopped selling DStv Select packages in April 2013 and replaced it with a DStv Family.

Existing DStv Select subscribers were, however, allowed to remain on this package as long as they did not become inactive for more than 3 months.

Many DStv Select subscribers opted to stay on the package instead of moving to DStv Family for a simple reason – it included access to KykNET.

DSTV subscribers pay annually R54 million for senior officials’ salaries – yet programs are broadcast repeatedly and service is excessively expensive

While the number of subscribers to DStv is declining in South Africa, the subscription fee increases annually to pay the high salaries of its senior officials.

Only a few of MultiChoice’s senior executives collectively earn more than R54 million a year.

The CEO, Calvo Mawela, receives R10.6 million a year and Tim Jacobs R8.4 million, but that does not include the many fringe benefits to which they are entitled.

What has not been taken into account are the stock options that the people are entitled to, which can amount to a fair amount.

A financial expert told Die Vryburger that partly explains why the TV packages of Multichoice are excessively expensive and the number of subscribers is declining.

VIA (DStv-kanaal 147) en die Afrikaanse musiekbedryf se grootste onafhanklike platemaatskappy, Coleske Artists, is op soek na die volgende groot Afrikaanse kunstenaar.

In die nuwe TV-reeks Die Kontrak, wat later vanjaar op die Afrikaanse leefstylkanaal uitgesaai gaan word, sal agt aspirant-sangers dit uitspook om ’n gesogte platekontrak. Die Kontrak se mentors – Elvis Blue, Tarryn Lamb, Monique Steyn en Dewald Wasserfall – sal uit die aansoeke die agt talentvolste kandidate kies.
