A Belgian chocolate manufacturer in Gauteng was left dumbfounded when he was told by the Department of Labour, that he employs too many black women! Chaos erupts at OR Tambo as travellers scramble through the darkness after entire Kempton Park region has been plunged into darkness
There was an eerie feel to the corridors of OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, as a power cut rendered a majority of its electricity supply useless. A nearby sub-station had exploded earlier in the morning, and the entire Kempton Park region has been plunged into darkness – including SA’s busiest travel hub.
Despite the lack of electricity, the show must go on at OR Tambo. Thousands of travellers have carried on with their business as usual since the power went out – but it’s made life extremely difficult for some.
How OR Tambo has been affected by the blackout
South Africans have been questioning whether the power failure was linked to the recent round of load shedding experienced in the country. We can confirm that’s not the case, and it is solely related to the sub-station fire. However, what does seem to be a head-scratcher is why the back-up generators aren’t working. Complaints raised with the blackout include:
Twenty illegal schools in Gauteng closed down, black learners will now have to find a place for quality education elsewhere – We can only imagine where the ANC will relocate them now
The Department of Education apparently started an audit and inspection that resulted in 20 illegal schools being closed in Ivory Park, near Kempton Park.
In three of the illegal schools a total of more than 400 black children attended school, but the standard apparently where mediocre.
Problems are now being faced with getting the black pupils to be placed elsewhere in schools, and concerns exist as to whether they will be able to pass the year-end exam.
Neighboring schools have been requested to make room for the pupils, while the initiators of the schools are apparently facing prosecution.
Panyaza Lesufi of the Gauteng Education Department called on the parents to enroll their children in public schools and not start again with new “own schools” that are illegal.

Staff at Child Welfare Kempton Park downed tools on January 28 due to financial challenges, Kempton Express reports.
A notice at the society’s premises reads: “Dear clients kindly note that our services are temporarily suspended indefinitely as from January 28, due to financial challenges faced by the Child Welfare Kempton Park.”
The media spoke to the society’s board treasurer Nthombisine Mhlambi, who said: “The staff hadn’t been paid three months’ salary because there were no funds.”
Mhlambi also told the media staff were only paid a month’s salary on February 4 but couldn’t confirm when the services would resume.
Staff members, however, told the media they would not return to work until they were back paid for the other months they were not paid.
