Livestock actions banned in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo following outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease – consumers can prepare themselves for some hefty price increases for meat products

TAU SA is shocked after the announcement that livestock auctions in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West have been suspended until further notification by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development. This announcement follows after the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the Molemole district of Limpopo.

“This is a big blow to the livestock and game farmers in the country, who are already being forced to their knees by the drought,” says Mr. Henk van de Graaf, the regional chairman of TAU SA Norht. “The sale of herds was the only remaining solution for farmers who no longer have food for their animals and now this way of escape is also removed.”

TAU SA realizes that serious action must now be taken to prevent the highly contagious disease but they do not believe that suspending auctions will solve the problem. Rather, the government must ensure that the measures originally put in place must be strictly adhered to an

Senior SARS official resigns to escape prosecution

Another senior executive has agreed with the SA Revenue Service to retire with immediate effect.

The retirement is part of the “cleaning” process the Revenue Service is doing, and a spokesman said Teboho Mokoena, the suspended chief of the human development division, agreed to leave the taxpayer’s service.

In return, the Revenue Service has undertaken not to prosecute the outgoing officer, and he is the umpteenth suspended official of the Revenue Service who leaves the service in order not to be prosecuted in return.

Media reports state that at least three of the officials who similarly had to leave the Revenue Service have close ties to Tom Moyane.

South African Revenue Service – 5 executives temporarily suspended

It took almost a year for Sars CEO of Information Technology, Mmamathe Makheke-Mokhuane, to be suspended.

The suspension was taken preventively pending a disciplinary process around the seriousness of the allegations of misconduct.

This means that five executives have been temporarily suspended. SARS does not want to comment further on the top person’s suspension and asks that the trust relationship between employer and employee be respected.

The numerous suspensions give the impression that there are undermining elements in the Revenue Service that adversely affect effective functioning.

Taxpayers forks out R5.4 million for absent civil servants who are currently sitting at home and doing absolutely nothing

Taxpayers have so far paid about R5.4 million on civil servants salaries who sit at home due to improper sickness or temporary disability leave in the past year and not doing any work at all. The largest amount of money was paid out by the Department of Environmental Affairs with a huge sum of R1,6 million.

The information was recently disclosed in parliamentary responses recently in response to a series of official questions asked by IFP MPs over a period of time. Barbara Creecy, Minister of Environmental Affairs, Forestry and Fisheries, acknowledged that there are currently five employees at her department, on approved disability leave due to injury or illness. One of the officials has been suspended but is still receiving a salary. According to her, the department has so far paid out R1,6 million.

All five campuses of the Durban University of Technology’s academic programs have been “temporarily” suspended after ongoing student protests

Lectures at all five campuses of the Durban University of Technology’s academic programs have been “temporarily” suspended due to ongoing student protests.

Opinion polls believe it is time for government to include higher education institutions that are unproductive and destructive.

Meanwhile, seven students have been arrested at the Mongosuthu University of Technology in Durban for damage to property.

The vandalism at Durban’s educational institutions has led to chaos over the past month, and many students have sustained injuries after they hit the police.
