SARS Looking at R90 Billion Taxi Industry to Further Increase its Increased Tax Revenues…

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has now shifted its focus to the R90 Billion taxi industry, which last year paid only about R5 million in taxes. The R5 million tax from last year paid by the industry, cannot even be the income tax of one province’s minibus taxis, and as a result there was a huge outcry in the media and on social media.

How the minibus taxi industry has apparently managed to circumvent its tax obligations to a large extent over the years, is still not clear, but financial experts are calling for the industry to be intensively investigated, to recover taxes from previous years’ revenue that was generated.

The Revenue Service’s diligent search for more income from taxpayers’ wallets, is related to the poor economic condition of the country, and aims to collect maximum taxes so that foreign loans can be repaid, it was claimed.

SAID kyk na R90 Miljard Taxibedryf om hul Verhoogde Belastinginkomste Verder te Verhoog

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Inkomstediens het sy fokus nou verskuif na die taxibedryf van R90 miljard, wat verlede jaar slegs sowat R5 miljoen aan belasting betaal het. Die belasting van R5 miljoen wat verlede jaar deur die bedryf betaal is, kan nie eens die inkomstebelasting van een provinsie se minibustaxi’s wees nie, en daar was gevolglik ‘n groot reaksie in die media en op sosiale media hieroor.

Hoe die minibustaxibedryf deur die jare blykbaar daarin kon slaag om sy belastingverpligtinge in ‘n groot mate te omseil, is nog nie duidelik nie, maar finansiële kundiges vra dat die bedryf intensief ondersoek word om belasting te verhaal van die vorige jaar se inkomste wat gegenereer is.

WATCH | Nearly 50 pupils crammed into taxi – doing it the South-African way!

The pupils were “literally sitting on top of each other” in the 16-seat capacity Toyota Quantum, which was spotted by law enforcement on Monday at the intersection of Standford Road and Ditchling Street in Port Elizabeth.

Video footage of the children being removed from the vehicle has surfaced on social media.

Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police Department officers said they were patrolling when they noticed the over-loaded white Toyota Quantum, which was driving in the opposite direction, said department chief Yolande Faro.

“The metro police officer approached the driver, introduced himself and stated the reason for the stop. On inspection of the vehicle his suspicion was confirmed – that the vehicle was indeed overloaded with school kids sitting literally on top of each other,” she said.
